Accessing and collecting data: how and why

One of the difficulties with men's work is the lack of good quality research, evidence and data. Often when seeking to justify our work with funders or policy makers, we find that research and data explicitly focused on men are difficult to find. Nevertheless, in times of financial cutbacks, providing solid evidence becomes even more crucial.

This introductory workshop has two parts:

• Session 1 will identify a range of online data sources relevant to work with men.
• Session 2 will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of different methods of collecting data (such as surveys and focus groups), which will be of benefit to those thinking about undertaking their own research project.

Who should attend?

Anyone involved in men's work – you do not have to be a researcher or statistician to attend. The seminar will be practically orientated so that it is readily applicable to your work. So if you are responsible for writing funding bids, influencing policy makers or service providers, or perhaps you just want to find out more, please come along.

Man Matters is funded by the Big Lottery fund and this support has allowed us to offer places on this workshop free to workers in the men's sector. Depending on interest and identified needs we may run a second workshop tailored to your research needs.
