The Old Library Trust Health For Life Project recently celebrated their older age projects with a wonderful display of work and performance, some of which was run in conjuntion with the WEA Learning Age Project. And what a celebration it was with wonderful food from the Healthy Eating Programme. WEA had run a men only Cookery Course in the summer at the Healthy Living Centre and some of the men made wonderful soup and fresh fruit sald to share at the celebration. There was a wonderful display of patchwork, quilting as well as other sewing projects. WEA tutor Maeve Gallagher was showing a group in attendance how easy it is to use basic sewing skills to make a small flower brooch. The Happy Go Luckies and Top Women presented a short extract from their recent Spring Chickens Show on the theme of Utopia. Even WEA Drama Tutor Mary Duddy got in on the act filling in for one of the group who was off sick. The piece finished with a quieter moment from member Fidelis as she laments her dancing days from long gone by. However the line dancing team show Fidelis that you dont always need a partner to enjoy dance today. So all ended on a happier note. Sinead Devine, Development Officer with the Learning Age Project remarked on the wonderful talent that was displayed at the Celebratory Day. "It is usual to celebrate the talents of our children and young people but rarely do we do this for the older members of our community. The very high standard of art work and performance today really shows that we should be celebrating the talents of older people more often." WEA is planning to host a celebration of the talent of older people in the Spring of next year which will help highlight Adult Learners Week in May 2011.
