Praxis have been working with a professional designer from Beleek Pottery to create new work for their Christmas Craft Fair under the Learning Age Project.
Marie McGrellis has been a professional Designer with Beleek for many years. She had great experience working as a mentor and tutor with undergraduates at the Art College and was delighted to come on board as a WEA tutor to create this unique project for the older members of Praxis. Marie began by presenting the group with a range of items she had designed for the company and shared how designs were created from initial ideas to the finished article. She then examined all the roles within the factory process and the group decided that they would all adopt a role for the project. So the crafts class had a Project Manager, Designers right through to Packaging and Marketing. They then worked on a range of small items, deciding on a Christmas theme so that they could sell some of their finished articles at their Christmas Fair in December. These items could all be hung on a tree and the group decided on a range of glazes which would fit into the Christmas theme deciding on traditonal reds and greens but also highlighting these with some lovely blue and yellow tones. The finished items were hung with pretty red ribbons ready to sell at the fair. The feedback from the public who attended the fair was very positive indeed and this was reflected in the sales the Christmas ornaments made that day. All in all it has been a very succesful project for all involved. |
