Learners from the Montague Centre unveiled the centre’s new welcome banner this week and received their certificates for courses they successfully completed with the WEA.
Another group of older people who use the centre also received certificates having completed a Creative Writing course with the WEA.
Carolyn commented, “Learning offers many health and social benefits for older people, such as helping to prevent isolation and ensuring they lead fulfilled lives as active citizens. The WEA is proud to be taking the lead in pushing for both greater recognition of the role of learning and adequate investment.”

The WEA have been providing courses in the Montague Centre since September as part of the Older People Learning project. One group of older people who use the centre regularly took part in an Art and Craft course. WEA Development Officer Carolyn Hale explains, “The centre always planned to have a welcome banner and this group produced it by tracing their hands and using different techniques to decorate them before sticking everyone’s ‘hands’ on to a large canvas that they decorated themselves.”
