North Belfast woman, Maria McCarthy was presented with the coveted CCEA Creative Crafts Learner of the Year Award at the "Being the Best" ceremony in Belfast last week. Maria completed a Creative Crafts Mixed Crats course delivered by the WEA as part of the WEAVE project ran by Intercomm. WEAVE is a programme which teaches women a mixture of craft ad business skills. The Mixed Crafts course, which was taught by WEA tutor Arline Birney, culminated in Maria designing and making a range of bags which are ready for the market place. Not only did Maria create beautiful products which could make her money but she also was helpful, supportive and a great inspiration to her peers. Well done to Maria from all at the WEA and Intercomm!
