Learning Centres and Partnerships PDF Print E-mail

At its AGM in 2006 the WEA created the membership category of Learning Centre. A WEA Learning Centre is an organisation which is a key partner with the WEA in the delivery of community or workplace learning and with which we organise three or more courses a year.

The relationship between the WEA and a learning centre is set out in the Learning Centre Agreement.

WEA LEARNING CENTRE AGREEMENT

This document sets out the general principles and parameters between the WEA and its Learning Centres. Each Centre will then annually negotiate specifics with its assigned WEA Development Officer.

WEA

The WEA will

  • assign each Learning Centre a Development Officer who will act as its central contact person to conduct an annual review, ensure smooth communication, facilitate capacity building and cover general aspects of WEA provision (N.B. centres will still have relations with other WEA staff to cover the running of specific courses)
  • offer capacity building support in terms of running adult education
  • provide high quality tutors and learning materials
  • assure the quality of learning provision
  • seek feedback from Centres annually on the service they have received
  • provide WEA promotional materials
  • provide a link from its website to the Learning Centre's website
  • encourage participation in the democracy of the WEA i.e. attendance at AGMs, taking a place on the WEA Management Committee
  • keep Centres updated with developments in the WEA and the adult education field
  • seek to include Centres in funding bids, as appropriate
  • be responsive to feedback from Centres.
  • acknowledge the role of the centre in any publicity relating to WEA courses held in their centre

LEARNING CENTRES

The Learning Centre will

  • become a member of the WEA
  • nominate a member of staff to co-ordinate with the WEA
  • be responsible for the recruitment and retention of learners and assist in assessment procedures as appropriate
  • be responsible for health and safety of a learning space appropriate for the subject(s) delivered
  • display its WEA Learning Centre certificate and other WEA promotional materials
  • acknowledge the role of the WEA in any publicity relating to courses provided through the WEA
  • collaborate with its assigned Development Officer and the Assistant Director (Quality) in annual reviews
  • feedback to the WEA on the learning needs of their community
  • participate in the democracy of the WEA e.g. attend AGMs
