Contemporary music: song writing, recording & the music business

The WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) is running a Contemporary Music course led by Jazz Musician and BBC Radio Ulster presenter Linley Hamilton.

The course, which is free, starts on Tuesday 12 February, 6.30 – 9.30pm for 13 weeks with an additional three days of delivery (dates will be chosen by group) at The Ash Room, Merville House, Merville Garden Village, Newtownabbey.

Linley Hamilton who will lead the Contemporary Music course Linley, a session musician formerly with Paul Brady, Eleanor McEvoy and Foy Vance, will guide participants through rehearsing music, performing to an audience and exploring employment opportunities in the music business.

Linley would encourage people to sign up.  “If you ever thought you could do something with music this is your chance now. “

Participants will write songs as individuals and teams and during the course these will be edited and mastered onto CD for your ownership.  Everyone who successfully completes the course will gain an NCFE Level 1 qualification. This qualification is ideal for anyone wishing to develop their music skills for employment, self employment or further study within the performance industries.  No previous music training is required.

WEA Development Officer Carole Kane commented, “Once again, the WEA is offering another opportunity for students to work with an expert in a skill area in the Creative Industries: in this case, Music Performance. Linley Hamilton has extensive experience in the music industry in NI and further a field and he has agreed to work with the WEA in delivering this qualification. This course will allow you to explore the limits of your music potential and the WEA are delighted to have Linley on board.”
