The WEA recently held a successful training day for voluntary and community groups across Northern Ireland focusing on Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
WEA Development Officer Amanda Biega and WEA Director Stevie Johnston along with Paul Tracey of NLPNI and The Success Foundation were keen to explore how NLP can benefit community workers particularly as a motivational tool leading to focused and collective action. Amanda explains, “We felt that it was important to explore NLP as a different approach to community development.”
Paul covered a number of areas with the group including: He explained, “Using NLP a person can ‘model’ the more successful parts of their behaviour in order to reproduce them in areas where they are less successful.”
Speaking at the event one participant commented, “The session taught me to think differently and consider how this can impact on others. I’d like to explore NLP further and I’m planning to use it in my home and work life to create positive change.” The Creating Change programme is designed to offer a range of training, support and facilitation and mentoring which is appropriate for the groups involved. For further information or to register an expression of interest contact Amanda Biega on (028) 7136 9947 or email amanda.biega@wea-ni.com.
