Tutor Lorna Gordon Visual Merchandising Manager for Moores of ColeraineStaff development and training opportunity

Lorna completed training in this area as a WEA learner in 2003 and Moores supported her in undertaking this training. After completing the retail and window display training, Lorna became a full time merchandiser for the Captain Cooks and Moores’ stores right across Northern Ireland and Wales. This has proven to be a win-win situation for Lorna as a member of staff, Moores as an employer and business and the WEA in delivering this work based learning opportunity.

Inspiring and creative store layouts that drive sales and promotions

Lorna explains, “My job involves creating an in-store environment that inspires the customer and encourages ease of shopping through well laid out departments and visual hotspots and commercial selling displays.” She continues, “The WEA course helped me develop essential tools to source inspiration and ideas and taught me how to use colour, shapes and props effectively. Through my own experience as a merchandiser participants will learn how to make their stores exciting and new for their customers and hopefully as a result increase their profits.”

WEA want to "do business"

Carole Kane, WEA Development Officer who launched this course commented, “Once again the Workers’ Educational Association is delighted to be able to provide this work-based learning initiative which are central to our mission and we are keen to pursue other possibilities with employers.”
