Twenty two learners from Omagh are celebrating having completed OCN Level 1, 2 and 3 courses in Live Sound and Lighting.Harry Parkinson (Omagh Local Strategic Partnership), Martin McCalgan (Chairman Omagh District Council), Colin Neilands (WEA Assistant Director) and Sinead Devine (WEA Development Officer) with some of the participants.

Over the past year the WEA, in partnership with Omagh Local Strategy Partnership, have been providing Live Sound and Lighting courses in Omagh in preparation for the opening of the new Strule Arts Centre.

The courses aimed to create a pool of trained people who could work in the community to provide sound and lighting assistance for local events.

Presenting the certificates Martin McCalgan, Chairman of Omagh District Council congratulated the learners on their commitment that spanned over a year.  He also noted that some of the learners have already gained employment at the new arts centre based on the skills they developed on these courses.

Sinead Devine, WEA Development Officer commented, “All of the learners are to be congratulated on their dedication and success.  There is still a waiting list of people who want to complete these courses and I hope that the WEA and Omagh District Council will partner again in the future to provide Technical Theatre training.”
