The WEA recently held a reception at Stormont to celebrate its learners’ achievements as part of Adult Learners’ Week.

WEA learners, learning centres, staff and tutors gathered to celebrate learners’ achievements which include winning NCFE, ILM, ASET and CCEA Learner of the Year Awards.

The learners were congratulated by Sue Ramsay, MLA, Chair of the Committee for Employment and Learning and presented with framed photographs of their respective award ceremonies.

Speaking at the event WEA Director Stevie Johnston commented, “We are absolutely delighted with the successes of WEA learners in the past year.  Eleven of our learners have won prestigious awards.  The awards are all extremely well deserved by the individuals concerned, but also give further validation of the high quality learning opportunities provided by the WEA for thousands of adults each year. As the stories of these individuals testify, our learner-centred approach offers opportunities to really change lives for the better.

“The commitment of our tutors, the supportive friendship in the class and the fun people have learning are what draws people to learn with the WEA. This is a tradition we cherish and will continue to provide.”
