The WEA believes that people learn most easily when they feel comfortable and supported. Our tutors treat people with respect and believe that everyone has something valuable to contribute.
They also know that unfortunately not everyone’s experience of education has been a good one and that this is one of the reasons why people are sometimes reluctant to go back into learning. Our tutors help learners identify their goals for attending the class and then work to shape their delivery to reflect these as far as possible.

We also realise that our learners have busy lives with many demanding responsibilities, such as childcare, and so work with our partners in the learning centres to offer courses at times and places that will be most accessible. We recognise too that learning should be a fun, social activity - so we don't forget the importance of teabreaks!

The result of this approach is that the WEA receives very positive comments from its learners. In particular people who have been out of education for a long time find that the support they get from tutors and their fellow learners helps them to overcome any anxiety they feel at coming back to learning.

In delivering the course tutors will use a range of methods to help learners get the most from the course. Often this includes group discussions, time to work alone and practical exercises.
